Had an excellent lunch at Goddards. Convenient to downtown Greenwich, Goaddards is a traditional pie and mash restaurant that occupies a small space off the main road. Unassuming from the... read more outside, but extraordinary on the inside. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful, from the counter workers who greeted us, to the gentleman who cleared out dishes and was such a friendly person. We each had a different pie, and all three were delicious. Loved the entire experience!
August 27, 2022Friendly staff, cheap prices for a touristy London location but a poor pie, chewy pastry with a 'swill' filling. I'd rather pay the extra £1 and get a pie that... read more reflects London's Pie and mash heritage in a better light. Even Aldis do a better pie. But staff were very friendly.

Visited Godard’s last Friday as a member of a group of about 12.
Its a cheap and cheerful place but a bit disappointed with the pies. All the meat used... read more in the pies is minced meat and no chunks. Also the pastry was very limped and insipid looking. I had beef pie while a friend had the lamb pie. Difficult to tell the differenc. However the mash was good and the service was fast and friendly.
Came away feeling a bit let down but full up.

The pies are classic minced beef, but you can get other flavours, which is unheard of in real pie shops, but I guess you have to cater to the tourists who come in.
The pies are good, and the pastry is crispy around the rim.
We had 2 single/singles with liquer, a bowl of eels, and a drink for £15. Well worth it.
I'll be back soon with the rest of my family.

It was nostalgic to go back to Goddards and were pleasantly surprised to see they did dessert for takeaway. The staff are lovely, as they were out of stock but we came in back in half hour and they saved us two portions.
It lasted the 2 hour journey home and was the perfect dessert on a cold winters day!!
Would definitely recommend Goddards

Tremendously high quality of ingredients despite the bargain price. Loved the lamb & rosemary pie and the huge chunks of steak in the steak & chorizo pie were incredible. Gave... read more the traditional pie a go and was pleasantly surprised too. As a proud northerner I drew the line at liquor though and stuck to gravy! If it was a pub then you’d easily expect to pay twice the price and wouldn’t even grumble. Worth mentioning that they’re licensed and is probably the cheapest beer you’ll find in Greenwich all day!

The prices were good as well, 1 pound for a cup of tea in London is practically unheard of nowadays, especially in a tourist area like Greenwich.
The location is lovely, right on Greenwich market next to the Cutty Sark.
The whole place is steeped in history.
It’s not a fancy restaurant by any stretch of the imagination, but for good value honest to god good old fashioned food, this is the place to visit.
January 31, 2022Super place to have Pie and Mash - Great staff , good location , super food, seating was to my satisfaction , great atmosphere , well worth a visit

When the person who served us realised this was a ‘first time’ she gave us some tips - watch out for the one bone in the middle of each piece of eel, and apply vinegar and salt. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food, although we thought the apple pie would be improved if filo pastry had been used, as was the case with the beef pie. The eel was quite tasty and was white flesh with the texture of fish.

I had just visited the Greenwich Planaterium when I saw the Goddards pie mash& licquer signage. so I thought that I would give it a try . To be honest I was not expecting much from my lunch here as a few years ago I visited a pie &mash shop closer to where I originally lived (Battersea ) and was very dissapointed with the food .But right from the moment that I walked through Goddards door seeing the traditional benches the ambience that you feel. And the friendly service that I received from the young girl that served me right down to the hot traditional pie mash & licquer that was how I remember it (The pie was proper minced beef with the pastry topping as I remember it .The mash was better than I remember more tasty & smooth and the Licquer sauce was thick and flavourful as it should be.
