Always love visiting Goddards when I’m in the area! Traditional, quick, cheap pie and mash which is great quality and tasty! I can never choose which of the yummy pies... read more to eat. On this occasion I was with my 1 year old nephew and the staff were brilliant with him, even doing a baby pie and mash! Please give it a try

Will definitely visit again.
September 24, 2021Tremendously high quality of ingredients despite the bargain price. Loved the lamb & rosemary pie and the huge chunks of steak in the steak & chorizo pie were incredible. Gave... read more the traditional pie a go and was pleasantly surprised too. As a proud northerner I drew the line at liquor though and stuck to gravy! If it was a pub then you’d easily expect to pay twice the price and wouldn’t even grumble. Worth mentioning that they’re licensed and is probably the cheapest beer you’ll find in Greenwich all day!
October 6, 2021Yum...wonderfully satisfying pie and mash - Considering Goddard's has been preparing their pie and mash recipe for over a hundred years, it's not surprising they're really good at it. It was recommended in all the guide... read more books, so of course we had to drop by for a try. The menu included a range of traditional meat pies (mainly beef as well chicken and lamb) but also some non-meat pies and even gluten-free options, all of which were accompanied by mash potatoes. The meals were wholesome and filling, and very tasty with the brown gravy that came along with each plate. There are dining areas both downstairs and upstairs (greater capacity with latter), which are are fairly no-frills. Do note that plates (collected downstairs) are hot, so a little care is needed if carrying the food upstairs.

Firstly I never write reviews. But I believe that this restaurant deserves my time and effort to write this one .
I originally come from Battersea in London. And I... read more was brought up on pie mash & licquer as a child.
I had just visited the Greenwich Planaterium when I saw the Goddards pie mash& licquer signage. so I thought that I would give it a try . To be honest I was not expecting much from my lunch here as a few years ago I visited a pie &mash shop closer to where I originally lived (Battersea ) and was very dissapointed with the food .But right from the moment that I walked through Goddards door seeing the traditional benches the ambience that you feel. And the friendly service that I received from the young girl that served me right down to the hot traditional pie mash & licquer that was how I remember it (The pie was proper minced beef with the pastry topping as I remember it .The mash was better than I remember more tasty & smooth and the Licquer sauce was thick and flavourful as it should be. My meal was Delicious . I believe that what ever country you come from to visit London IF you truly want to experience what Londoners traditionally ate when they where growing up and want the 100% traditional pie mash& Licquer experience with ambience and delicious food and friendly service and numerous tourist places to visit right on Goddards door step
I can honestly say that I believe this to be the most traditional Delicious tasting friendly pie mash & licquer shop in London
Which before I left I told the man that was cooking the pies behind the counter my views on the restaurant and that I would be writing a review of this fantastic reasonably priced restaurant of which I will most deffinetly will be visiting again when I am in London
Please dont just take my word for it . Visit it and Taste for yourself .
It is only a 2 minuite walk from the Maritime Museum in Greenwich

June 9, 2022Went for lunch four years after previous visit, absolutely the same menu, pies, mash, liquor(parsley sauce) gravy and jellied or cooked eels, followed by apple/black currant crumble with ice cream... read more and custard.
The excellent quality of the food is the same as is the friendly cheerful east end service. Servings remain on the large side of generous. One slight change is that wine is no longer available, beer or soft drink only.
Well worth a visit if in Greenwich if only to sample what the working man would have eaten 150 years ago at mid day.
August 25, 2022Goddards is the best pie and mash shop in London hands down. Been eating in here for many years now and nowhere else compares. There are a variety of quality... read more pies including veggie options. They also do amazing homemade fruit pies and crumbles all with custard or ice cream and the prices are very reasonable with decent portions that fill you up. Staff are always very friendly and the place is always really clean. Staff go round clearing and cleaning tables as customers come and go. We had steak and ale pies today but they were a bit disappointing as very bland and not much flavour. Had these pies before and usually very good so not too sure what happened today?? It’s always been spot on for a great pie and mash so maybe todays steak and ale pies let down were a one off. Still the best pie and mash shop of all time IMO.

Yesterday marked my first visit to Goddards and it definitely won't be my last. The staff are welcoming and friendly, and the food is absolutely fantastic. I'd worked up an... read more appetite having walked from Hackney, so I had double pie and double mash followed by blackberry and apple crumble with custard. The pies were generously filled, the mash was delicious, and the liquor had that lovely zing of fresh parsley. it was a massive plateful, but somehow I finished it and then polished off their delicious crumble. The crumble topping was gorgeous: crunchy and buttery, almost like a biscuit, and the fruit filling was sweet, but not overly so. Add a generous dollop of custard and you basically have a perfect bit of pudding. Incredible food served by really friendly staff and well within even the most cautious of budgets. What are you waiting for? Get to Goddards and enjoy. You'll thank me for it.

My first pub food was good, a little bland, but the serving was quite large and my meat pie was covered in a golden-brown crust. I got a minced beef pie, mashed potatoes and gravy and peas.
